Ha, actually still running the 5k/20k encoder, fully dressed, at the moment .
Maybe Iāll get a chance to throw on the sincos this weekend, feels fantastic already thoughā¦
The Notch and Peaking filter is a VERY specific frequency filterā¦
Feedback comes into the wheel in a wide range of frequency and in some cases certain frequencies may be amplified by either the feedback from the game itself and or the Wheel in itās interpretation.
think of it like this, you have a flat line that represents all frequenciesā¦
When you set the Center frequency you are setting a point on that line at that frequency. If you were to PULL that point down it would cause a dip in the line, the further you pull that point down the more THAT frequency would be below the othersā¦ this is the attenuationā¦ and it is a reduction of that particular frequency.
The Q factor determines the width of the affected frequencies around that lowered frequency pointā¦ a lower number .01 creates a very narrow effect on the frequency keeping the reduction in that frequency more precise where 1 would affect a much wider range of frequency.
Due to the precise nature of the Filter it is EXTREMELY hard to get it set correctly and why it is generally used only to pinpoint and eliminate an oscillatory frequency. Granted you can use it to reduce other aspects of feedback as well but the problem is that the effects of the filter will not be consistent from car to car, track to track, unless they exhibit similar frequency characteristicsā¦ I generally recommend trying to do any setting of this filter while in car so that you can immediately experience the changes being made.
Thank you, bsohn. That clarifies a great deal as to why there is no blanket recommendation for this setting, as the Center frequency is not a magnitude adjustment of some filter but is a spot location in the frequency band. I guess the settings I used that seem to feel good on the AMS Stock Car are kind of a lucky hit. It makes some sense now why those same settings seem to provide a very different sensation in the CART Mod. It is by necessity trial and error.
Thanks again for the explanation.
Brionās explanation is good one. In addition to resonances coming from the car physics model, there is also an inherent frequency that might induce oscillation due to the inherent lag of
PC <-> usb <-> simucube torque effect calculation and encoder readback
-loop. I expect this to be the main reason for low-frequency oscillation and for the foreseeable future, this lag canāt be further reduced.
This is interesting. One of my questions I was about to pose in response to bsohn was whether there was a useful/identifiable range of frequencies which the center setting can have a beneficial effect. Then I noted in your comment, Mika, that the lag-induced oscillation is ālow-frequency oscillation.ā Is this why, at least in my shot at the dark on one car in AMS, the setting of 1.5 hz seems to alleviate oscillation and jolts?
My guess is āyesā, although a good frequency analysis of the system as a whole would be needed to say for sure.
Is that frequency analysis something a telemetry program can do?
No, I think analyzing the internal delays in the SimuCUBE&IONI system with oscilloscope etc would be required for a real high-fidelity analysis.
Oh, ok . . . so back to trial and error for a guy like me
Status update: Iāve implemented a more precise way to measure time, which is now used in effect generation for the effects that are supposed to be changing (sine effect, ramp effect). I also implemented that sine wave effect now.
Also, debug logging system is now implemented, and user can set event log verbosity to
- normal events and state changes
- ffb effect creation / starting etc
- ffb effect calculation and output values
And user can download the last debug log (always the last 1000 events) using the configuration tool.
So, things are progressing well.
Cheers Mika
Appreciate your efforts!!

So @Mika will we be able to dedicate some button box controls to SimuCube adjustments on the fly?
I mean if not in the upcoming version, but sometime along the way?
can someone explain how the new direc input filters works? and the difference with the previos damping ecc ecc filters?
Directinput filters are things that are in the Directinput FFB API, and something that games can set and adjust, where as the filters on the IONI servo drive are always-on, user settable filters.
Yes, but only for the force strength adjustment. Still more important things to develop. Also there is the fundamental issue on how the adjustments relate to the settings in the profileā¦
There are some Black Friday discounts in our store for those looking to upgrade to SimuCUBE.
Hello all !
Finally Iām here. I followed this project since a long time (only as reader) and finally I decided to buy a SimuCube with the Big Mige Servo and the Mige SinCos Solution.
I want to thank some folks :
Beano for pointing me in this direction with sharing all his knowledge and posting in the sim forums.
Tomo Meglic SimRacingBay for delivering a perfect SimuCube Set and famous Fanatec quick release Shaftmount.
SimRacing Machines for the incredible good wheel based Fanatec Rim USB Conversion Solution.
Fanatec for their fantastic inverted Pedals (CSP v3i) and Rim and Universal USB hub Solution (bought it on black friday with a big discount).
Granitdevices for the fantastic Hard and Software Solution.
All contributors to this forum specially to the folks who shared their rF2 settings.
A Feedback for Mika:
After some Email Communication with Tomo from SimRacing Bay I bought a āready to goā SimuCube Set flashed with the newest OpenBeta firmware which arrived this week. After mounting and wiring the new Hardware to my rig I started yesterday with some settings I found in the SimuCube rfactor2 thread.
What shoud I say? I was in many ways surprised because I had no issues at all and that was not expected .
I powered on my SimuCube and connected with the configuration Tool saved my settings fired up rF2 reworked my controller settings and was on track with a incredible good feel on my wheel.
In the next days I will take a deeper look at the config tool and the possible adjustments. But for now it is just fine.
Why I wrote this in the development thread ?
My main and favorite Sim is rF2 I own most of the others known except i-racing (had it in the past but was not happy with what I got for the money at that time. Maybe I will try it again some day)
I know rF2 has not the best reputation and not that high users as AC and other competitors but the core user base is very experienced and has very often advanced rig solutions and is willing to pay money for good hard and software.
IMO there is a big audience for the SimuCube Solution specially with the new beta combined with the High Res. Encoder.
The commitment of Mika to rF2 and willingness of testing it with SimuCube was for me the key and let me say the last convincing argument to get onboard.
I donāt want start a discussion about simās as I sayed earlier I own most of them and enjoy to use them but for me personally rF2 is that one where my Hard and Software must work.
All in all Iām really happy for now and I regret nothing. Looking forward what the future brings.
regards alex
Hi, i want to build a new computer and i disconnected my simucube from the old computer, now i wanted to make screenshots from my settings ins SimuCube config tool, but i cannot see my profiles because the servo is not installed at the moment. Is there a option to find my old profiles without connecting to the SimuCube again or not? Thank you very much.
Unless you exported the profiles to .ini file in the Configuration Tool, the profiles are not stored on your computer.
The profiles are stored in the SimuCUBE flash memory.
Yes i forgot to export the files and transported the computer to my office. So if you say i can copy the SimuCube Configuration Tool from the old computer and paste it to the new pc and when i connect i to my simucube servo then and the settings are save i do not transport the pc again to my home.
So please Mika, do you can confirm that my profiles are saved and available again with the new computer then?
Thank you very much!
