Just make it global shortcuts. Those wanting to use a joystick can use a software like joy2key or similar.
It’s quite similar to the suggestion I made some time ago about an API to select strength, profile etc. that could be used by 3rd party software, e.g. an LCD software or even an in-game app.
Out of interest, should we be controlling ffb levels through SimuCUBE and Granity? Much of the advice I have read previously suggests we should always leave Mmos/SimuCUBE/Granity at 100% and control ffb levels in the game itself.
Controlling SimuCUBE force strength via some API also brings up another good question:
DirectInput has method to set device strength (Gain) parameter too. If a game crashes for whatever reason, that can be left in a strange value. I think I will have to add a button to the UI to reset this to default, as not all games set that gain at startup.
Also, if someone sets a strength via API or hotkey as envisioned here, should it be reflected in the UI, in the current profile, or should it just be a “temporary” thing that happens in the background?
Hi guys, i just entered the forums now for the first time and tried to catch up. I am a rFactor 2 user and keep having issues with simucube loosing ffb with firmware 0.83 (also version before) and only thing to get ffb back is close the game and restart. Could anybody point me in the right direction if you guys think it is on my side? for your info i am one of the first people who got the simucube and never encountered these problems running mmos. Using a small mige with oldest encoder (5000?), If i need to give more info please tell me what you need to know.
Mika and team Granite (Beano included) thanks for your stunning work on this and keep up the good work.
is there any particular reason why the new firmware doesnt allow dfu mode in software to make it easy to swtich between mmos and simucube firmware?
i dont see a reason why it should be hardware switch only solution now. way to much hassle to open the casing and switching etc when it worked perfectly well before in mmos.
We didn’t do MMos. Already in summer, I spent around 3 hours in trying to make the firmware to boot up to DFU mode, unsuccesfully. I decided to move on, and implement our own bootloader from there. So, it is on wishlist, but there are more important things to do to improve beta for now.
Perhaps the torque/current set in the profile could be taken as the ‘maximum’, and the potentiometer input allows adjustment between 0 and ‘maximum’ only - therefore no nasty surprise of increased torque beyond expected, particularly when swapping cars. Myself and a few others only ever used the ANAIN torque control to progressively decrease torque on longer races. No need to ever increase torque over what we had initially configured.
Thanks for reporting this. I did minimal testing during the summer for rFactor 2, so there might still be also bugs in the firmware that cause this.
Hopefully I can have a good development session for a few games in the near future. Before that, a bugfix release for the current 0.8.x release is going to happen.
