Simucube 2 True Drive software feedback thread

@Mika, It’s German/Deutsch, not Deutsche!.

I uncrossed the “audible notifications on startup” but I keep hearing the startup beep. Is there something else I need to do?

I think that might be an oversight. I will check tomorrow if that setting can be installed on the servo drive before it has time to make the initialization beep.

Today, I finally updated software/firmware. Was running 1.0.10 now 2020.2. I’m disappointed in the wheel effectively turning off automatically now. I’ve already had the wheel turn off 3 times.

The first time, I had to go to the washroom and replied a text on my phone, the second time I had to search some car info before going on track and the third time was while searching these forums. We often do things in between racing sessions, even sometimes for just 5, 10, 15 mins (get a coffee, go washroom, read some emails, etc. etc. etc) or sometimes even still playing the game but not using the wheel like watching others drive, watching a replay, adjusting setups, etc. and it’s going to be very frustrating if the wheel is going to keep automatically shutting off every 7 mins and we’re constantly having to alt-tab out of game (and risk game not crashing) to press re-enable torque or having to double-press the e-stop button (buried under my desk, never used the e-stop, ever, in 3 or 4 years of having a DD wheel).

Also, sometimes you may not even know the wheel is off and then you go on track and suddenly there’s no FFB. Now, every time we step away from the PC, we have to always keep a watch on the time or we have to alt-tab out of game and check if the FFB has turned off or not every time we step away from the PC.

Imagine doing this 5, 10, 20 times a day?

I say just go back to the beeps, at least nothing is interfered with and the wheel stays on. Plus. the beeps remind you the wheel is still on in case you forget to power it down like I have quite a few times.

press and release emergency button and the wheel will turn back on

Like I said, e-stop button is buried underneath my desk. I’ve never had to use it once in 3 or 4 years of owning DD wheels. It’s such a long and thick cable to have in the way and there’s already a million cables so I just hide it. But besides that, do you want to be pressing and releasing the e-stop 5, 10, 20 times a day, every time you play? Come on, let’s get real here.

I always press the e-stop when I stop driving the car. So when I watch the replay in iRacing, I have the e-stop enabled. So whenever I turn on my wheel, my e-stop is enabled and I have to disable it before I use the wheel. The way I understand SC2 manual and what has been written by Mika on this forum, that is the desired use for safety reasons.

I would question why you have buried the e-stop, since its an important safety feature. On the other hand, if you feel like risking it (and as many of the users seem to be doing), I am not sure why Grante Devices are trying to stop you from doing it your way. We are after all grown ups that can handle the risk, I would assume. Not sure how Fanatec have gone with this, but I assume they have a better solution, because the users don’t seem to be bothered by this.

Hello,

I’m a quite new user of the SC2 and this feature of going to sleep was already on the FW when I received the wheel.

I had quite some discussions here and read a lot about that.

For now all you can do is pressing the e-stop when leaving the rig. Like you mine was burried behind the rig and I re-routed the cable to have an easier access to it.
I agree with you this is not good for me and should be always on like I’ve always known with my other wheels.

But please look at the posts above as in the next release we’ll be able to make the ‘High Torque Mode’ always enabled. We’ve to wait for a bit but it’ll come soon
Here’s a preview screenshot from Mika:

@r0zina Fanatec uses a torque key, which you plug in and forget about.

I’m okay with SC2’s solution. Sometimes I engaged the e-stop and forgot about it when I enter a race, but it’s just a matter of twisting a button to resume FFB.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately there will always be some people who will complain. It’s seems that’s the part of their lives. Even if everything works fine they will find something to complain

My main complain is not really the sleep mode as there is a workaround with the e-stop. Even if I’ve to say if I can avoir having to do it I’ll prefer that.

But I’m really looking forward the next update because I already had 3 occurrence where after coming back from sleep mode I had no more FFB. Like a dead wheel. I could turn but that’s it.

where can I get the 2020.2?

not out yet, Mika said it’s coming this month

Things have been going neck and neck for a while for Simucube 1 and 2. There will be a test release for Simucube 2 tomorrow.

If you need testers you can count on me

Hello,

i’m here if you want to include me.

I also offer myself as a volunteer

I’d like to volunteer myself for the test release as well.

Mika,

First, thanks for your work here!

Driving the new Cayman on tracks like sebring or weathertech receway it feels quite notchy/mechanical(although not digitally so, more like “yanking” notchy, if this makes sense. I think you would have to try).

I have been under the impression I would not need to run irffb, since if running at the direct 60 hz mode, this would be a filter very much like the recon filter.

But I went to try it, since a nice guy pointed me to the fact that it could also do 360hz(although more lagged).

But when I run irffb in the 60hz direct mode(interpolates, does not predict, very, very slight lag only) it makes iracing feel less notchy-yanking & more detailed, imo.

As the reconstruction filter is predictive, is it possible it somehow exaggerates low-res input, like the 60hz signal from iracing on certain cars with certain ffb characteristics?

If so, would it be possible to put in a slider to slide between “lag <-> prediction” too?
The current strength of the filter I assume only means how many frames to “predict”?
If that is so, then to also allow the decision of how much lag is allowed to avoid prediction might help on these cars?

Sorry, I don’t know the details here & am making many, prob. wrong assumptions.

But I ask since I see no reason why irffb should improve my experience when only using the direct 60hz mode.

If anybody else can fill in my blanks here, feel very welcome 8)

Thank you again!
