i agree 100% with what you say
Mika says very rare to have problems with Internet
WELL WHERE I LIVE IN A REMOTE AREA THIS IS NORMAL NOT TO HAVE INTERNET FOR 60% OF THE DAY
hi joe
guess i will have to stay on
2020 10 for ever
what a shame that @mika just does not care or seem to want to listen to the people like me with the bad Internet connection like me
ie some times to send email takes
up to 3HOURS
Needless to say i am not to happy with Granite at this time
Regards to All
If you guys read this thread back it seems like “science has changed” and they are trying to make offline mode more functional, close to Classic, looks like some functions are still missing or not as easy to use, but the positive sign that at least they are recognizing now the problem they introduced with “online only or bust” thing and trying to backpedal, of course Mika will never admit it fully as “online is still the only recommended mode, everything else is limited emergency backup”.
Not sure why it had to go through all that drama when all that needed to be done, if online profiles sharing is really that important, was just add it as an option to existing Classic interface.
Hopefully eventually we will get to the point where everyone can enjoy the gains in software programming. Having a good internet connection can not be mandatory.
I personally am one of the people who was in an Internet deadzone. For 15 years I lived at the end of a peninsula in a very rural area.
Finally cable came to the area, but went right past me on the main road. They wanted $40k to bring the cable 3/4 mile down my road.
So the only option we had was satellite internet that SUCKED!!
To make matters worse we had a Naval Air Training base 10 miles away. And guess what they tested? Electronic warfare/ radar jamming!!
That area still does not have wired Internet. And much of the USA still does not have high speed Internet unless you live around a big city.
Fortunately now I live just outside Washington DC and we have a high speed fiber connection.
I’ll forever be baffled with this choice to take TD online and have what is just simple profile sharing linked so tightly to the main software.
The decision to do so would have been shelved after the first mention at most other PC peripheral manufacturers I can think of.
All that needed to be done in my opinion was to create an online repository where those that chose to, could download profiles to try out. TD classic could have had an embedded ‘Find Profiles’ link which directed you to the sharing site. That site could also have retained the same TD look if that was an important desire of GD.
When I think about this, I take Heusinkveld as a good example. You buy their PC peripheral, go to their site and download the control software. Whilst there, you’ll also find a downloadable folder containing various profiles. You drop those profiles into the relevant folder and they show up in the software ready for you to try. Nice and easy. To be fair, I will say that it’s admittedly not a perfect system as it only gets updated periodically which is a disadvantage.
Assetto Corsa setup market is another one that comes to mind when thinking about how this could have been tackled.
I try not to participate in this debate as I resigned myself to it being a lost cause that couldn’t be redirected quite some time ago. The decision is made and it isn’t going to be backtracked on although I still hope it turns out as good as it can be.
What I’ve written above truly isn’t meant as a bash on anyone at GD so I hope it isn’t taken in that spirit. What they’ve achieved with hardware is something I have the greatest of respect for. You guys are way smarter than I’ll ever be and with those smarts you’ll very likely figure out a way forward. I wouldn’t own and still highly recommend Simucube products to anyone if I thought otherwise.
I think the biggest problem seems to be misunderstanding what has actually being said and blowing sidenotes out of proportions. People seem to read too much between the lines and stick to that.
“good” internet connection never was mandatory, and I think it was never supposed or planned to be mandatory. Maybe they thought “an” internet connection could be mandatory at some point, but they have since changed that when making offline profiles that can be set as default or just work if there’s no internet.
I mean, I would prefer some constructive criticism of the usability of the program rather than complaining about some semantics week after week.
For example, I don’t like to change numbers with a slider. It works if it’s “sticky” and if there’s limited amount to choose from, 1-10, with steps of 1, but not 1-100 with 0.1 steps.
I also don’t see the added value of paddock but what can we do, it is what it is.
There are so many other things that would add more value to me:
changing parameters on the fly while driving, mapping ffb strength to a button box etc., even just a SimHub plugin would be great
an input/output ffb chart that charts/logs the output ffb from the game and maybe a few curves that represent what each filter is doing in a nutshell where possible
autotune using machine learning with the data gathered?
But hey, maybe some of these things will get implemented eventually now that this whole online profile sharing debacle is behind us (or is it?) xD
I think the difference being Heusinkveld doesn’t update the firmware of their pedals, also they don’t seem to have a place to submit any of the profiles. Also they probably have any plans for another set of peripherals that they may want to manage with said profile software.
How many people even knows there’s such an online repository, it sure doesn’t tell anything in the smartcontrol program, only in their webpage there’s a link.
I mean SC had this program that handled profiles and firmware updates to the wheel. You indicate that you would have taken the FW part out of the program and just make another program to dl and set profiles from the internet somewhere? And or kept the fw/set profile part as it was (classic), but being able to dl profiles as files and then being able to set them with the original (classic) program?
I think people should just check the 2021.09 version with classic and then the paddock version. After initial profile setup there really isn’t that much change on how to use it. I have 2 icons on my Object dock, and I occasionally click one or the other and my AC still works the same.
Maybe you could try to tell how the usability should be changed, what is missing or what exactly you would like to see. Quick glance of your posts indicate so far you haven’t provided that much constructive feedback and haven’t even used the recent paddock versions. Apologies if you have an exhaustive list of changes you have requested somewhere.
Is it really that dramatic of a change? What is wrong with “online is still the only recommended mode, everything else is limited emergency backup”. I mean classic/offline does not have online features, that is the limitation. They added possibility to edit profiles offline, change profiles offline, what more would you want to do offline?
They had to change the whole principal way how they handled FW and the profiles. It was not possible with the classic anyway, so why not plan ahead and prepare for possible future products etc. at the same time. This has been explained many times.
That is how I think this would have worked out best, leaving valuable time that could be spent on adding or refining filters.
I might consider trying this but I want to be sure that I can revert back to the version I’m currently using (v1.0.7) as it’s been bulletproof for 2 years+
I may have missed something, but wasn’t that one reason that they had to rewrite the whole FW/settings thing. It was getting too difficult to enhance or change the filters with the old architecture.
This I can’t promise will work, but you should be able to get back to at least 2021.9 version from the current or newer one. And to be honest I can’t really say if the FFB has been made any better since those early days. I haven’t noticed anything since around a year ago at least. But you never know what the next version brings to the table.
