SimuCUBE Open Source Firmware Development Update Thread

Ok so Mika says no implementing of 128X interpolation and we know that the problem is loosing the wheel position.

So question is, will it be possible to attain a button to center the wheel?
Will new fimware allow this?

That would depend on if it is chosen at a later date to have access to interface buttons in that mannerā€¦ We have discussed some options for what could be done with interface access via quick keys such as rotary encoder mapping of the MMC or power as well as the filters and this would probably fall under that same sort of implementationā€¦ This however is behind other items as far as any implementation so it really depends probably on the time and difficulty to implement but it will more than likely be visited when Mika starts working more (if it is chosen to do so) on any advanced Button implementation.

Right now you would have to go back into the Configuration tool and just use the recenter button in the tool itself (and that will work for the session).

I hope they can implement button access to interface.
Anyway we can always wait for good things

Yea Mika is working hard and it has been so good so far that Mika seems to be getting inundated with more of the Wish list wants than the actual required features even though all those features are not yet fully implementedā€¦ Hopefully some of the Wish list stuff gets implemented in time but he does need to get everything that is required up and running and stable firstā€¦

BTW @all - I did test the 3600line encoder I have back to back at 256x and 64x (3686400 and 921600) with the 488GTE around the Kansas Road Course (turns out to be a simple fast road course that gives a lot of different road feel from shock, to wheel return, to high speed downforce, understeerā€¦ slide catching, etcā€¦ you do just about everything in 13 sec laps. And what I found at least with the small Mige is that there is honestly not much differenceā€¦ In 5 flying lap back to back stints (not leaving the sim when changing the encoder interpolation to keep the same weather) the laps were basically the same in timeā€¦ The 3mil might have felt just marginally better as I did pull a couple of laps about .15 quicker, the rest in the 12.5xx range, but with the 900K the laps were right on consistent all in the 12.5xx rangeā€¦

So depending on how much a 1024 (104856) to 2048 (2097152) line unit is in reality I am not totally sure the higher encoder settings will be all that worth the extra $$ it will take to get them when you add in the potential issues.

On another note I matched my Best Lap ever on this track, set with the Large Mige, with the Small Mige at the same power level, the encoder is impressing me more as I use it with the Small as I am using minimal filtering and it is feeling like my Large, I can only expect things to get better when I install the SinCOS on the large.

Yeah I would love to hear your comments when you install it on the big mige
Did you ever try Bodnar SS2? If so, How would you compare it to the small mige with new software and Sin/Cos encoder?

I have tried a Bodnar SS1 and SS2 in the past but because I am not back to back with it and as well it was in a commercial rig so it was turned down from what I would normally run power wise. It might not be an accurate comparisonā€¦ But I would say that the Small Mige with the SinCOS and the new firmware is a very natural feeling wheelā€¦ It is Smooth and Passive which allows all the road feel to come through but it doesnā€™t feel as if it is fighting you at all (which is how a real car tends to feel, The car shouldnā€™t fight you, the road might though)ā€¦ The SS2 has that sort of feel as well but it is done so through the Kollmorgen Servo which in itself is a MUCH smoother but way more expensive servo. Beano would be able to compare the Kollmorgan SS2 to the Kollmorgen SimuCUBE as he has run both.

I would say that the SS2 for the average user will NO longer be a viable option with the Small Mige and even a low line count SinCOS and the firmware, without the SinCOS the Large Mige with the new firmware (I feel) gives the SS2 a run for its money as my feeling is that the Small Mige with the SinCOS is just slightly better in feel than the Large with the 40K, Hence why I think the Large with the SinCOS may be very impressive (especially at the price point)

Great information. Thank you very much. Iā€™m excited like hell!!!

This is going to be intresting release.
CanĀ“t wait.
It would be nice option if there is some recommended basic setups to common sim games.

Settings, the servo filtering settings in particular, are very heavily dependent on the servo make&model and the encoder CPR, so it will not be easy to establish such set of basic setups.

We are going to depend on the community to do that.

Status update: still working on the profile management. Should be quite ready tomorrow or Tuesday.

Kiitos hyvin paljon!!

Translation please!

Thank you very many

Thanks Beano!

How many languages can you speak enough to get by now?

South Africa to Australia, whats next?

I know just enough Finnish to get in trouble, English and Afrikaans, can also understand Dutch pretty well, closely related to Afrikaans, and perhaps couple dozen German wordsā€¦ blahā€¦

Status update:

Everything I did yesterday seems to work. Profiles can be named, added, removed and one can be set as default, which is loaded at startup. Iā€™m going to defer ordering them (up&down in the list) for later.

In addition, the first profile is ā€œRead-only safe profileā€ that canā€™t be edited. The Configuration Tool will switch to using it in, for example, the motor configuration dialog.

Bugs left to fix: The notification for unsaved settings is acting strange; it will say that there are unsaved settings even if user just switches between profiles. I will need to think about this a bit - I mean, figure out the proper logic for it and then implement a fix.

and that is now fixed.

WOW fixed in 18 minutes!

Also, my first try of export/import of settings (but only analog axis settings for now) worked perfectly!

Closed beta Tuesday release ?
