Well, you know that in Kanton Schwyz, we usually don’t have any issues for our salaries etc… (and our taxes are…well far below Luzern… )
BUT it is still annoying that you feel ripped off when you see the pricing compared to Germany, France etc…It is a good news that because of the change of the buying habits of the consumers, manufacturers and retailer changed their pricing accordingly. For other products (like CARS), it just doesn’t;t happen that fast…
I know some people in the industry and this definitely not the case…
Even when I leased my company car it was something like 50% more than in Germany…Just insane!
Compare for the same trim level etc…and you will see. But importing a car is just a nightmare…
Anyway Simucube is a very reputable manufacturer who happens to have made a product for Sim racing.
Their product quality is top notch and you should have no problems in the coming years (except with some firmware updates…but that’s a different topic!)
I don’t think you could get a better wheel base than Simucube at the moment.
I personally own a SC2 Pro for one year now and the only “upgrade” I could imagine is getting the Ultimate in 2022.
I’m coming from a VRS wheel. I have really enjoyed it (I finally put my rig together this July). The software side is very early in development however, and I am having issues playing WRC without doing janky registry hacks (not VRS’s fault, the game dev doesn’t seem interested in supporting). I think they have a solid product at a competitive price.
But I’m excited about the cloud/profile sharing/more mature software of the Simucube. It would have been my first choice when I was shopping last year, but you know, Canada…
My advise is however to always consider buying a very quality product (which usually cost more) and keep it longer (and hence avoiding all the expensive upgrades otherwise). Well as much as your budget allows of course.
The Cloud system for the Simucube is a good concept but it takes time to populate it with good content, which is also easily identifiable by the users etc…I am convinced that it will improve in the future as the community around the Simucube is great!
hey @DeathGrips My own purchase decision could have gone either way and this forum is the perfect place to share what you shared. I’m genuinely sorry for assuming you were just a sock puppet account trying to bring a perfect counter-point to my critic regarding the retailer.
I might have saved some money but did not encourage my local business, most likely because I couldn’t afford the extra expense. I’m not going to be able to call them for help if I ever need advice or service. That’s what the extra 342CAD$ could have afforded me.
Apologies as well. I came off defensive as it was my first post and here I was being accused of being a shill. I find that people who actually do this stuff as morally bankrupt. All of a sudden I was in the same boat…
If I had that proposition in front of me, $342 is probably enough to push me toward the decision you made. I too find the prices we face here to be frustrating. My perception of ASR as being fair comes from months of looking at Simulation1. Not to disparage that retailer either, but prior to seeing some more competition in Canada, it was a hard pill to swallow. Generally I don’t find MSRP a “fair” price, but these are crazy times.
If you legitimately will see a bill of $1841 at your door, after any of those sneaky brokerage fees, no one would fault you for ordering from EU as you have done very very well. This has been a year of me not chasing best prices, as I’ve already assumed I’m getting taken for at least a bit of a ride.
But it’s all been worth it. I haven’t had this much fun for a very long time. Sim racing has kind of ruined other video games for me if I’m honest.
Looking forward to both of us receiving a new DD wheel
Good news to you both, you will love your Simucube 2 and it should last for a very long time!
And a big welcome to the Simucube community!
(simulation1.ca is may be the largest online retailer in Canada but they do charge quite a lot indeed. And the shipping cost to BC are quite high. And they charge 4% for Paypal processing fees. But it seems that they have enough customers ready to pay that…)
As mentioned in my initial post, I had scoured the list of retailers and few of them replied to my e-mails regarding price and availability (half the resellers and dealers only build whole systems and don’t have a web shop with individual items with prices).
I placed my order on Dec 20 at 3PM Eastern time and the ETA was January 4. Today I received all 4 boxes by DHL shortly after noon on Dec 24. I almost can’t believe how good global logistics are working. I had a 418$CAD customs fee. SC2 Sport+Simlab front mount, bucket seat brackets and Cube controls formula pro wireless ended up costing 2836$CAD+418$ customs/taxes = 3254CAD.
I understand people just accepting they’ll run a CSL DD for the rest of their lives and I’d be okay with that. I’m just not OK with the fact that Fanatec ships their wheels with a plastic quick release and ask for 100$USD for the “good” QR. CSL DD + good wheel would have cost me 1300$CAD or so. Might as well go for the “endgame” wheelbase on the first try.
Thanks for everyone’s input. I understand regional pricing is kind of a sensitive topic. Hopefully I’m still welcome on the forum, I’ll probably ask a few questions in the coming weeks once I receive my rig and finish putting all this together.
I’m starting a new adventure and I think I won’t regret taking the plunge. I’m already
