Automobilista 2 - Simucube 2

for me, a huge step back than previous default ffb profile…I have the impression this sim is getting worse and worse with every update

Did you delete the Automobilista 2 folder in the documents?

done it right now…let’s see if it works.
anyway, I noticed that my ffb changes a lot if I set “controller damping” and “controller vibration” to zero (def values are 100 and 50), which shouldn’t happen because those settings are for controllers, not wheels.
is it because of the old doc folder, or maybe something wrong with my wheel?

I don’t know. I never touched the settings you mentioned. If you still have problems with the FFB I would advice you to complete delete the game and do a fresh installation. That helped me one or two updates ago.

Seems like a fresh install is the only thing left to try. Really hope this will be worth it…

been testing all day, pretty happy with the results
ingame : 40 - 0 - 0 - 50 (damper)
(I also set to 0 controller damper / vibration)
TD : AMS2_2020.11.01_19.38.ini.txt (867 Bytes) - not entirely sure about the value of Inertia filter tho
hope it helps

You gotta be kiddin’ me? After release it is STILL necessary to delete documents folder?? So I have to set up everything including triple screen all over again? For a shitty physics engine… Ok I am done with AMS2. I showed every patience possible, always hoping they may fix fundamental FFB problems - but it is the whole shitshow again as it was with PCars2.

Not true, unless Reiza instructs players to do so in the release notes. Otherwise, if you suspect something is off, you should reset the FFB in game, meaning you’ll have to assign and calibrate controllers again. Also, any car-setups you have changed should be reset with updates for now.

If you still think something may be wrong or not matching up with user reports, then you can nuke the player folder and start fresh as a last resort.

Most of the time, I only need to reset the car-setups to avoid some unwanted behavior carrying over from old builds. Still, I’ve needed to hard-reset controller files at one time or another, in every title I play, even ones that don’t regularly receive physics updates.

That’s actually what I did yesterday night (despite my experiences with this title over and over), deleted the folder, reset EVERYTHING and doing the whole controller settings from scratch. And it is even worse than before. With GT3 cars there is a lightness in the wheel around the center on straights, which is far off of everything you would expect.
Again: I probably never understand, why people still find this Sim good - in basically every regard: physics, messed up fffb, bugs, poor and uninteresting car and track selection (except you have a fetish for some weird brazil series). Even the graphics are worse than they have been in PCars2…

I understand your frustration. I’d certainly like to see more progress being made on the fundamental physics issues that continue to affect the driving. However, based on Reiza’s previous results, I still have faith that they can work some magic (even with the Madness Engine:).

I didn’t find that the hotfix solved the bouncing & porpoise’ing issues with the Porsche cars however, Reiza have managed to tame it with some other cars over time, so I think they will figure it out.

As for the content, I’m quite happy that they bring something different to the table. I love having the uncommon content in their titles, despite the fact it’s far less popular. The obvious downside is that they are under-funded and have less resources to make faster progress. Still, studio’s willing to make racing-sim’s are too few imo, and deserve all the support they can muster.

Fortunately in the meantime, there are other titles to occupy our time, especially if we don’t have the interest or patience to assist Reiza with AMS2 development, and that’s completely understandable. I check out new AMS2 updates when they arrive but, play AC / ACC / RR / rF2 when I just want to race.

I adore your patience. I lost mine though :-/ with Reiza (and I really wish a smaller dev team would shock the established players).
Up until now I did the same… I followed the development with every patch/update, tested it for a few hours - and went back to my “daily” Sims -> being iRacing, rF2, AC and ACC.

All of Reiza’s titles since Stock Car Extreme are working extremely well here with my sc2 pro, great ffb as rfactor2, at least to my taste it has been more than alright. Even acc is running well after some tweaking (I hate its ffb). Sometimes I have to improvise but I can always find good settings - it sucks there are so many bad experiences :upside_down_face:

Initially I didn’t like the FFB update for the latest AMS2 version V1.0.5.1. But after some messing about with the settings. I have settled on the following, feels very good in most cars.

My base is the SC2 Ultimate, so adjust overall strength to match the Nm output of around 14Nm if using a different wheel base.

Game Settings:

True Drive Settings:

Let me know what you think, good or bad.
Thanks.

I’m struggling… I’ve tried tweaking to my own specs, I’ve tried resetting my docs folder and FFB settings and restarting, I’ve tried @SuperMonaco_GP profile, will try upping TD inertia (though not convinced), mainly on Porsche (cup, GT3) at Oulton Park and the steering keeps jumping back to centre under heavy load like the front wheels are constantly coming off the ground (jumping) then gripping again. OK I know they had(have) issues with the suspension of these cars being bouncy.

But the same happens on the M1 procar and the BMW E30…

Then I jump into rFactor 2 on the same track and car and FFB instantly feels worlds apart. I am really struggling to get a good FFB feeling from AMS2.

Suggestions?

I did not try the car, but I’m aware of the bouncing issues in general. Also Reiza added so there is exactly more pull to center on heavier loads, so it might just be what you are experiencing.
I’d suggest trying the various custom files & see if they make you happier. They’re still really awesome for AMS2.

Perhaps I am in a minority, but I absolutely love the way AMS2 feels compared to all the other sims.
For me it feels the best, with RF2 coming a very close second.

AMS2 is not perfect, but considering it’s very early on in its development compared to most other sims, I’d say it has a lot more to give.

I’m fairly new to sim racing, but have some real life experience with race cars and track days. My daily driver is a OG BMW M2 with 470bhp and some mods to make it more suitable for the Nordschleife, which I visit as much as possible!

So I know how a car should behave near and on the limit, and past it!

Yes I would say that AMS2 does slightly exaggerate oversteer, and it’s fairly easy to catch and recover from the slide, but for me it does offer a bit of fun factor when this happens. I love how sideways you can go in the Caterham 620R!!

Like I say, it’s not perfect, but at least for me it’s one of the best sim racing experiences I have experienced yet. So I’ll not be deleting it anytime soon!

I’ve spent a bit more time and tried a few other cars. It was obvious that the issues were worse with Porsche cars, so that matches issues that Reiza already know about.

After reducing the FFB strength a bit (30 on AMS2 with a SC2 Pro), setting damping at 50 (AMS2) and adding a bit of friction on TD (4%) with damping at 3%, I’m at a somewhat happy medium.

I believe the FFB implementation of AMS2 has potential but isn’t quite there yet. And I say this because of rF2, which feels so much better. AMS2 translates elevation changes brilliantly into FFB, I love that. But I lack that instant bite you get on a 911 when you intentionally dab the brakes into a corner.

Let me just comment that your feedback and references to how powerful car on a bumpy track feels is indeed valuable. For me better FFB is realistic FFB, but my points of comparison are limited. I know what I should expect at certain situations but not by how much and to what intensity. I know circuits and track days on a decent sports car too but nothing to the level you describe and I never been on slicks either sadly.

I have always liked AMS2 feedback and found it very engaging especially with cars such as the caterham 620. Now i gave it a try this weekend after at least a couple of months and realized the settings were way off. So i tried a few of the posted ones but with no luck. After some testing i reached to the following ones which seem to be quite ok, very engaging and fun (not sure though how much realistic) as i have never driven a caterham in Nordschleife… Feel free to check them out in case these work for you as well.

Now, for this setup i am using a 34cm lightweight deep dish wheel without a button box hub, so you have to reduce a bit the inertia if your using a heavier setup. If you want the wheel less active, you might as well play a bit with the damping, friction and/or increase the recon filter. For other cars you might as well have to adjust the Gain.

Buggy game won’t map my SC2 anymore.
None of the suggestions posted here work.
I’m not going to reinstall Windows to get this stupid buggy (released too early) prototype to work with my wheel base.
Yes I set steering to 900 degrees, yes I tried weird tricks like enabling the E-stop or deleting the game folder, etc.
I can’t map the steering at all.
And now, once I go past about 450 degrees while hopelessly trying to map my steering, the wheel base makes a noise like when the high torque mode is enabled and the wheel violently resets to center and has a spring-like centering effect until I alt-tab to Windows and alt-tab back.

Seriously why is this “game” so awful?
