Simucube first power up

I’m nearly at the stage to power up my simucube for the first time (once rig arrives for motor) and just so I’m clear, do I only need to install Granity and then install the latest firmware or do I have to install the bootloader and then firmware?

Thanks in advance

Stu

Recommended order is

  • install latest IONI firmware and also configure motor via Granity (if you know how)
  • then install Simucube bootloader to Simucube (from latest firmware package)
  • then install Simucube firmware from 0.11.2 package. This is due to a bug in latest version where the Next -button on the firmware upload wizard does not show up.
  • then run the wizards and verify that everything works
  • then update to latest firmware version

Thank you, great help,

Is it still recommend to install 0.11.2 first?

Or can I now go straight to the latest version?

I am soon going to be doing the first start up of my SimuCube1.

Going to latest version is recommended. The above mentioned bug / issue has been fixed long time ago.

Also, I would like to ask how this can be a first power-up of the device since we stopped selling them around 3 years ago? Is this a used unit or what is the situation exactly?

Thanks for the reply.
I bought it years ago and have been slowly putting it together. Hopefully it will be worth it!
Its taken a long time due to a house move and having two young boys who play lots of football.

hopefully the control loop on the servo drive won’t go unstable with such CV jointed shaft.

Will the problems be caused by play in the shaft or the added inertia and friction?

Any play in the shaft is problematic.

I have 0.5 degree of play plus another 0.5 degree springy wind up between wheel and motor.

I will redesign and remove the uj shaft and mount the motor further forward and bolt the wheel directly to the motor.

Thanks for the advice. [quote=“Mika, post:10, topic:7780, full:true”]
