Shutting off SC2 when not in use

Its just that 180€ for a power off button is an absurd amount of money. I am happy to invest in my simhobby, but always look for value for money… that cant be found in that item.

Agreed. I use a solid state relay with low power plug-in 5v or 12v PSU and a rig mounted LED toggle switch to turn mine on/off. Comes in under £20.

Not exactly, by shutting down and restarting PSUs you will create inrush current condition, causing load spike.
With on unit power button PSUs are on all the times.

So the SC2 should be kept all the time “on” in order to avoid these inrush current?

  1. Short break - engage torque off button to prevent Mosfets from burning
  2. Long break - turn power at the back of the unit or power button on “Deluxe” E-Stop.
  3. PSU is better kept on all the times to avoid inrush current and thermal cycling, per Mika, they consume less then 0.5W of power when idle (link)

Thanks for the explanation

That means that I should buy the $125 Premium torque off button :frowning:

Why? You can’t reach back of the unit?

Because of my setup with a shelf on the left of the rig and the wall on the right, I only have access from my seat and I have also a 120mm wheel extension, dashboard, 2x120mm fans, air ducts, 2 transducers on the brake and throttle, cockpit LED, gear indicator etc…So the space there is tight and it is therefore not that convenient for me to reach this button. Much easier with a remote button. At least happy that Simucube offers this button :+1:
