Our view is exactly the opposite - working with ini files manually is something that average computer users do not know how to do these days, or do not wish to learn when they just want to drive with great FFB settings. However they can watch a short youtube tutorial on how to take a screenshot, thats why screenshot and lots of manual work to replicate the settings to their device has become the method of choice for most. But this is lot of work just to get driving with those settings, compared to one or two mouse clicks in the new Profile Online system.
Perhaps for granma, but thatâs just funny if not plain condescending thing to say when talking about sim racers using heavily modded sims, overclocking their systems, investing thousand of dollars into PC and equipment.
You would be surprised to see what types of support requests we and our resellers get.
and by this profile online system, we are not removing any functionality from the proficient enthusiasts.
From simplicity of use sake, shouldnât primary focus be on default profiles included with SW, I donât think any of them was updated since initial release, even that each sim has more or less agreed upon (at least on this board) good base profile posted by someone.
Thanx Mika,
I am extremely happy to see I can still do my tinkering as always, I by far prefer the manual way of doing things, but then again, I am a hobbyist, and only myself to worry about.
For you at GD, it makes sense to have an online-profile sharing service, but it will be good if you allow caching to the local HDD/SSD as well as ability to do at least some (minimal?) profiling on local SC2 device.
Cheers,
Beano
We intend to have our and our pro driver partnerâs profiles available in the online system. The problem so far is that each and every time we have updated our software, the âtemplate profilesâ have been work in progress and we could not get or produce updated profiles exactly at that time, thus skipping updating the online profiles to next version. With the online system, we can remove our template profiles and have for example a âOfficial Simucubeâ account or âSimucube endorsed profilesâ account in the online system, where in we can keep profiles updated at our own pace that is not dependent on our other software release schedule. This will be much better way to keep profiles updated and to be more reactive to simulator software updates that happening at different pace to our software updates anyway.
Sounds that youâve just overlooked âlow hanging fruitâ to solve the problem.
We want to have a proper solution to this problem - one that will live on its own - instead of having to match release schedules with sim software updates, etc.
Mika, have you used CrewChief by any chance?
What it does on app startup is checking if new version of software is available and prompts if you want to download it.
But it can also check and download new version of
- Sound Pack
- Driver Names
- Personalisations
They all are on different release schedule and can be downloaded independently from main release. E.g.
Same goes for AC Content Manager that can manage auto updates for tracks and cars configs stored in github and contributed by other users (modders). But there is no âalways onlineâ or âonly onlineâ requirements, it updates if you enable it AND if it can access that remote resource, otherwise everything is local.
Not sure why people have so much to say on something unreleased⌠lets all just give it a go and then see if these mountains out of a molehill are actually an issue!?
Version 1 will always have things to improve, but from what Ive seen GD actually listen to the community and dont put their head in the sand, so if it doesnât work it will get updated I have no doubt.
Im very keen to give it a go, and improved software 100% adds so much to the device. For example I hated fanalab when it was first released. It was more bugs than anything else and didnât add very much to the party, but I have to say its in a VERY good place now and super useful.
True.
So far the software delivered has been of very high quality from an ease of use and no-bogus angle with very few issues.
Looking forward to see it!
Sorry if the question has already been asked, buy i read in the first post âlater it Will ben made available to simucube2 R1 ownersâ
I have.the first version with 2 power supplies (donât Know if this is the r1 version of not)⌠Buy why limit it only to some release versions if you previously said the differences between the versions where only internal for the production process, no differences to user experience between the two versions.
With a limited release to only a certain version (even for a limiter time) this IS the case (different user experience)
If.i am understanding this incorrectly i apologize
Its incorrect.
Earlier this year, we promised some special edition features for those Simucube 2 owners that had to wait a long time for their units, and the early access to the Profile Online is one of these features. After a period in time, the online will be made available for all Simucube 2 owners.
This is a bad move imo. If I had known this was the direction GD were going to take, I wouldnât have bought an SC2 Pro.
I am a DD newbie so I am the âtarget audienceâ if I have read this correctly. Well, all I need is some good starting point profiles, which could be kept in a locked thread in the forum. Then some advice and guidance on how to tweak those for my individual preferences. Each person has a different idea of what âgoodâ FFB feels like. Also, people paying ÂŁ1000+ for a DD wheel are enthusiasts and understand the need to tweak settings (just like car set ups). Part of having a DD wheel and getting the best out of it is learning to understand how to use it.
A question for GD please. Can I opt out by refusing to upgrade my firmware, and just keep the old firmware and TD system?
If I cannot keep to the old TD system, and need to have an internet connection, I find this a major change to conditions under which I bought the device and not something I agreed to when I bought my SC2 Pro.
Yes, of course you can. Nobody is forcing to upgrade anything.
Thank you Mika for that clarification.
I am not against a cloud service, but am against a âcloud service onlyâ to be able to run my device.
If I were not able to âretrogradeâ and use locally stored profiles, then I would keep the old TD system I have now and opt out of any upgrades.
I think this thread has run its course by now, and while the feedback has been valuable, we really need to focus on getting feedback from the actual beta testers of the online system to make it as perfect as we can and then designing the fallback offline functionality. I will lock the thread later today.
If you wanted to set up some kind of online profile sharing service, a shared Google Drive folder could have done the job.
Thereâs an ulterior motive behind all of this and a determination to push it through, no matter what community feedback thinks, hence the proposed locking down of further discussion.
I can assure that there is no such motives. And we are already 95% ready with the system and just beginning public testing phase.
