Ic7 voltage regulator L7987L exploded

A while ago, I went back to using my Simucube 1, but suddenly I lost FFB. Thinking it might be the power cable, I unplugged and replugged it, and that’s when I noticed a burning smell.
Upon opening it, I found that the L7987L component had blown. When it was removed, some PCB traces were accidentally damaged (unfortunately by a friend with no prior experience).
The issue is that I can’t find the schematic or wiring diagram to restore the missing traces. I even took it to a repair shop, but they told me they couldn’t fix it without the board’s schematic.
Apologies for any mistakes — I’m using a translator.

While consulting ChatGPT about a replacement for the L7987L component, I was told that an alternative could be the LMR16030. Is this true? I’m looking for a replacement since the L7987L is not available here in Argentina.

Hi David

You can find similar cases and related information from here:

Unfortunately the LMR16030 is unsuitable as a replacement. It has different amount of pins.

Kind regards, Esa

Specifically this post has the layout of the board near the regulator. Should be enough to repair the board if traces are damaged:

In addition, when looking at the images you posted: C33 and C47 in your picture are both 100 nF capacitors in C0603 package with at least 16 V voltage rating. Those should be readily available.

In addition it will be a good idea to try to figure out why the regulator exploded like that. The cause may very well be the power supply.
